Description
This Buf Cafe coffee from from the Nyarusiza washing station in Burundi epitomises our love for specialty coffee. Buf Cafe was founded in 2003 by Epiphanie Mukashyaka, whose story of growth and community development is an inspiration to countless female entrepreneurs around the world. Initially asisted by various financial aid organisations, Epiphanie currently operates 2 washing stations, Remera and Nyarusiza. While the cup profile of this coffee may be fantastic, what really speaks volumes to us is their community spirit and the focus driving these washing stations and its surrounding farms. Processing upwards of a thousand tonnes of cherries via as many as 7000 smallholder producers, year on year growth in production and stable prices reflects Epiphanie and her family’s commitment to sowing back into the community.

This particular lot is a fully-washed coffee. In addition to a 12-18 hour tank fermentation, sorted wet parchment are then soaked in water for a further 24 hours to stabilise moisture content. From selective harvesting to detailed processing and sorting, Epiphanie’s coffees are definitely a benchmark of quality within the Rwandan Specialty Coffee Industry.
