Description
Situated in the Oromia region, Guji Zone which is about 320 miles south of the capital city, Addis Ababa. The Kayon Mountain Farm is privately operatd by Ismael Hassen Aredo and his family, with their first crop harvested in 2015. Although this is a recently established farm with their first tract of land purchased only 8 years ago, the farm is currently sitting at around 500 hectares and further supported by small holder farms in the immediate region. With over 30 years of combined experience, Ismael Hassen Aredo and his team have been managing wet and dry mills throughout the region.  

The family’s rich experience has included many years of seed selection and nurturing of heirloom local varieties. Two spring fed nurseries are maintained to for the planting of seedlings in the loamy-clay soils of Kayon and coffee is grown in a semi-forest environment under native Acacia trees. This wealth of experience is one of the many reasons why coffee produce from this farm has already been highly praised by roasters globally.

This lot is a sun-dried natural, comprised of fully ripe cherry carefully dried on raised beds for an average of 21 days. The fully dried cherry pods, or jenfel, are conditioned and milled at the family’s dry-processing facility in Guji, and then trucked to Addis Ababa for final sorting and quality control prior to shipment.


Preparation Advice
19g of coffee, medium grind size, 300g of water. Our preferred brew apparatus on this is the Hario v60. This is also highly recommended for cold brew.
